“Unidirectional flux” is a term used by biologists to describe the movements of molecules in one direction across a membrane. “Bidirectional flux” describes movement to-and-fro across the membrane. With this, the second issue of Kaleidoscope, the magazine declares its strong interest in the bidirectional flux of thoughts, ideas, opinions, responses and the like, from its readership. We are open for business.

In its published articles, Kaleidoscope will bring to the fore many diverse views, hopefully without exercising any biased restrictions. A vibrant magazine expects creative responses from its readers, including both positive and negative reactions, alternative viewpoints, additional evidence and commentary. In addition, in the “To the Editor” section, submissions in response to articles in one issue would find a published place in a subsequent issue. In this section of the present issue, we have now included author-initiated submissions which express a focused point-of-view and which are of a length which would not warrant a more expansive article. These too, are more than welcome. Provided that the content is well expressed, is consistent with our values and not abusive, and is well-constructed, these submissions will undergo in-house editing and subsequent publication.

The pace of change in world politics and in Israel, is such that a sentiment expressed today may seem redundant only a few weeks later. Nevertheless, each piece has historical value and is worthy of exposure. To address this, each published article or communication, will carry a submission date, or, if delayed by review, an acceptance date.

A friend and colleague who had been a publisher and printer of a private press for many decades, and whose son had taken taking over his print shop, once told me, upon my complimenting the son’s first publication off the press, that the first one is easy, given the flush of excitement of a new venture. “It is the second one that is the real test.” he said. I had no idea what he was talking about then, but now I do!
